PROCESS Engineers Judge Science Fair Projects - Billings, Montana

PROCESS actively participates annually in the local Middle School Science Bowl science fair program in Billings, Montana. This year was no exception and PROCESS engineers Ron Colwell and Susan Rishell were in attendance to help judge this years projects. PROCESS sponsored an award for the "Best Use of Chemistry or Chemical Engineering". This years winner was Jacob Perry of Sleeping Giant Middle School who modified his Dad's tractor to run on biodiesel fuel. Check out the links below to view news articles on the event and learn more about what some potential up-and-coming engineers achieved.

National News Article - February 26, 2008

USA Today recently ran an article on a project to design and test a CO2 Capture Pilot-Plant at a Coal-Fired Power Plant. PROCESS provided significant process design and engineering services to this project as a subcontractor to Lambert Engineers, Inc.

PROCESS 2007 Company Highlights - January 2008

It was an exciting year at PROCESS. Thanks to our loyal client base and our top notch team, PROCESS acheived an overall company growth of 56% over 2006 while still maintaining the highest quality of services and increased efficiency (decreased overhead %). Over 50 projects were completed in 2007 and 21 new clients were served. Other notable events included:

  • Monthly technical seminars were hosted at PROCESS' corporate offices in Oak Ridge, TN to educate our engineers even further. Each seminar is presented by experts in their field, some of which are our own engineers. In addition, engineers from other engineering firms and operating companies regularly attended these seminars. Topics included various simulation techniques, PHA documentation, new benzene regulations for gasoline, plate type heat exchangers, process filtration, industrial coatings, and how a blind chemical engineer performs process simulations.
  • Computer Server system upgrades at the Corporate offices in Oak Ridge, TN will enable even greater connectivity with both our clients and our satellite offices.
  • PROCESS' Pennsylvania office was relocated to a larger office complex in Boyertown, PA in advance of expected growth.

    The new address is:

    Process Engineering Associates, LLC

    329 E. Second Street

    Boyertown, PA 19512

PROCESS Welcomes New Chemical Engineers in 2007

PROCESS was very pleased to hire several experienced chemical engineers in 2007. Joining our team were:

Jennifer McIntosh Bergstrom, a chemical engineer (B.S., Oklahoma State University, 1996) with 12 years experience in PSM program management and petroleum refining operations.

Dennis Worthington, a chemical engineer (M.S., Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 1988) with 20 years of experience in plant operations support, pilot plants, and control systems.

Fred E. Weber, a chemical engineer (Ph.D., University of Minnesota, 1982) with 28 years experience in engineering education, and the design and operation of nuclear/chemical processes.

Peter Bereolos, a chemical engineer (Ph.D., Purdue University, 1995) with 15 years experience in the operations and technical support of nuclear materials processes.

Matt D. Whitworth, a chemical engineer (B.S., Georgia Institute of Technology, 1998) with 9 years experience in the design, startup, and operation of organic chemical production processes.

Sonja K. Cannon, a chemical engineer (B.S., Tennessee Technological University, 2000) with 9 years of experience in the design, startup, and operation of batch specialty chemical processes.

Rame Y. Sulaiman, a chemical engineer (M.S., Tennessee Technological University, 1995), with 11 years experience in equipment and processing systems design, startup, and operation.

Welcome to the PROCESS team!

PROCESS Chemical Engineers Promoted in 2007

Three engineers were promoted in 2007. PROCESS strives to provide a exciting, challenging, and rewarding work environment for engineers such as these to practice their skills.

Mr. Brian Gregory (Greg) Jobe - promoted from Associate Engineer to Project Engineer

Mr. Jason P. Firman - promoted from Project Engineer to Senior Project Engineer

Mr. Roger M. Efferson - promoted from Project Engineer to Senior Project Engineer

Congratulations !

Blind Chemical Engineer Interns at PROCESS - Summer 2007

Mr. Noel Romey (B.S., Chemical Engineering, University of Arkansas, 2004), is currently interning in PROCESS' Oak Ridge, Tennessee office.  Noel is unique in that he is, as far as anyone knows, the first blind since birth chemical engineer in history!  His internship is part of his graduate school work and is meant to demonstrate his ability to do commercial sector chemical engineering as well as to discover the technological obstacles that need to be overcome in the future such that he can become a fully-independent worker in a competitive free market environment.

Using specialized equipment, Noel can perform computer process simulations using PROCESS’ licensed commercial process simulation software, Chemstations’ CHEMCAD.  Thus far, Noel has produced several comprehensive petroleum refinery simulations for our Billings, Montana office:

  • Diesel hydrotreater
  • Amine treater
  • Scot tail gas unit
  • Fuel gas treater
  • Sour water stripper

In addition, Noel has generated simulations for client-specific projects in the Oak Ridge office:

  • Methanol and glycerine fractionation systems for a biodiesel production facility
  • High-purity propylene fractionation system for a hydrocarbon light ends production company

Noel has also performed a boiling point curve analysis of a hydrocarbon feed stream and characterized the stream in terms of paraffinic hydrocarbon compounds in support of a process evaluation project for our Billings office.  Finally, he completed the simulation that appears in PROCESS’ Excel Interface demonstration located on our Home Page (see item below) and wrote the original text for the demonstration verbal presentation.

It has been a great learning experience, for both Noel and PROCESS.  We are very glad to have him here.

Joel Reagan Named PROCESS’ Engineering Manager – April 2007

PROCESS is pleased to announce that Mr. Joel Reagan has been named company Engineering Manager. Mr. Reagan, who works out of PROCESS’ Oak Ridge, Tennessee office, assumed his new duties on April 1, 2007.  In addition to the project management and engineering roles he currently fills, Mr. Reagan will add project directorship, engineering staff management, proposal production, and manpower planning to his duties, primarily in the chemical production market segment.  The elevation of Mr. Reagan to this position will allow PROCESS to further improve its engineering efficiency and ability to service client needs as the company grows.  We welcome Joel and his tremendous talents to this position.

PROCESS Marks 10 Year Anniversary - January 2006

On January 1, 2006, PROCESS became 10 years old. We would like to thank all associated with PROCESS, but especially our past and current clients who have made this possible. We very much look forward to our next 10 years.
